Though there’s a slight caveat. Evernote will continue support for Skitch on Mac but not iOS. Windows and Android users are the ones to suffer. So, for you guys, we hunted down some great alternatives for Skitch on both Windows and Android.

You might be thinking why to look for alternatives. We can still use Skitch. Yes, but in future, if there is OS update, the app might crash. Worse, it might not support new features that the update will provide.

Skitch Alternatives for Windows

1. Greenshot

Greenshot is an open source tool for screen capture and editing screenshots. It might not look artistic like Skitch, but it has all features that Skitch has. You start with taking a screenshot. Ctrl + Print Scr takes a full screenshot and on pressing Print Scr will allow you to manually select part of the screen.

After selecting you’ll got a menu option for saving the screenshot. You can directly save it or open it in the image editor for annotating and resizing. You also get options to directly open it in desired office apps or upload it to Imgur.

One cool feature of Greenshot is its plugin capability. The external command plugin allows you to add your desired application in which you can further edit the screenshot. Here’s a quick guide provided on their site. So, if you want to open it in Photoshop, then add it as external command application and you’ll see Photoshop listed in the menu options.

It contains all other tools excluding the stamp tool. You can obfuscate, resize, crop and highlight specific lines. It’s a great app. Considering its open source new great features are expected in future updates.

2. Jing

Jing is a Freemium screen capture utility provided by TechSmith. Yes, you guessed it well it’s a free tool used to promote SnagIt. Snagit is one of the best screen capture tool anyone can ever use. But it isn’t free. If you don’t want to pay and are fine with compromising with fewer features, then you should use Jing.

First off, you’ll need to register. All TechSmith products need registration. But with it, you get the capability to save the screenshot online on their servers and use the image link to share it anywhere.

You start by hovering over the “Sun” icon in the top centre of your screen. Which pops out three options for Screen Capture, History and Preferences. You can, of course, hide it and choose to capture screen through a hotkey. Another advantage is the history. This option keeps track of your previous screen captures.

But the most disappointing thing done by TechSmith with Jing is there are NO editing options. So, you can use Jing only for instant screen capture and Video recording which also is limited to 5 minutes. It’s available for Mac too.

3. ScreenPresso

Screenpresso is a powerful screen capture tool with tons of features. It’s most useful when you want to present your ideas from a picture or screenshots and present a tutorial. You can take full page screenshots including the scrolling parts and also capture HD videos.

You get a workspace where you can store all your screenshots. You can even drag and drop other images into Workspace to edit using its powerful built-in editor. You can share them online using public tiny URL and integrated support for 13 online services. These include Facebook, Twitter, Dropbox and Google Drive.

4. LightShot

Lighshot is free a lightweight application that can let you quickly take a screenshot and quickly edit it while taking a screenshot. As you can see in the above image the tools for editing are available as you take the screenshot. Not much is available but it’s quick and handy.

You can upload it to their servers and get a tiny URL and even find similar images on Google. It doesn’t have a powerful editor, but its has integration with Pixlr. On pressing Ctrl + E will directly take you to Pixlr for editing.

Skitch Alternatives for Android

There are some really good dedicated apps on Android for annotating and editing screenshots. Though you always have an option editing the screenshot in another dedicated Image editor app. The apps listed here are dedicated screenshot editors and work well as an alternative to Skitch.

5. Ashampoo Snap

Ashampoo snap is feature-rich screenshot editor just like Skitch. But not all features are available in the free version. After you buy the Pro Key you’ll get access new stamps and tools like blur and resize. The editor is pretty smooth. Tools are easy to handle.

Though I found these tools to have less graphic quality than Skitch. There is no option to increase text size. Even on zooming the Text tool box doesn’t increase the size. Other tools work well and are resizeable. Ashampoo is a decent alternative to Skitch on Android.

6. Nimbus Clipper

Nimbus Clipper is another feature-rich app with no limitations. You can use all the tools available. You can draw, annotate using arrows and text and crop as you like. Along with editing images, you also get a web clipper and a tool to annotate PDFs.

The graphic quality of the tool is again lower than Skitch. Yet, it’s a great alternative to Skitch with all tools available for free in comparison to Ashampoo Snap.

7. Screenshot Capture

Screenshot capture is the best app if you like to draw over your pictures and share it with your friends. This app is created especially for this purpose. You can add different variety of filters to your images. The drawer tool contains different shapes to choose from and options to set brush size, blur and opacity.

You get different options on how you want to take a screenshot which include Overlay Button, Notification and trigger on shaking the device. This app might not be that useful for demonstration and tutorial purposes but its worth a shot.

Which One Would You Choose?

Skitch was the best in its arena, but Evernote couldn’t handle its awe. I have used Greenshot before and I’ll go with that. On Android, it’s Ashampoo Snap for sure. But, which app would you use? If you know any other apps let us down in the comments.
